Santa Monica College Emeritus Concert Band
Santa Monica College’s Emeritus Concert Band, under the baton of Yosuke Miyoshi, will present a free performance at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 24. The performance will be held in The Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center, located at 1310 11th Street (at Santa Monica Boulevard), Santa Monica.
The free concert – sure to please an audience of all ages – will feature as guest conductor Venice High School Director of Instrumental Music David W. Lee, and includes an eclectic mix of music with performances by members of the Venice High School and Narbonne High School Bands.
Ample free parking will be available on the premises. Seating is on a first-arrival basis.
“The SMC Emeritus Concert Band is always topnotch entertainment for your Sunday afternoon,” said Dr. Scott C. Silverman, Associate Dean of SMC Emeritus. “It will be a great time, so bring your friends and family.”
SMC’s Emeritus Concert Band is made up of musicians of a wide age range. The variety of musical and life experience that each band member brings to the group fuels an environment of ongoing inspiration. New members are always welcome. Information on how to join is available by calling 310-434-4306.
The Concert Band has thrilled listeners with its free concert series since 1979. The 60-member band is part of Santa Monica College’s acclaimed Emeritus program, established in 1975 to offer free classes and special programs to older adults.

Vicente Chamber Orchestra
The Vicente Chamber Orchestra begins its 2019 Concert Season with Boston based cellist Carol Ou in a performance of Robert Schumann's beloved cello concerto in A minor. A versatile artist, cellist Carol Ou has warmed the hearts of audiences with her “fiery, marvelous” and “meltingly melodic outpourings” (Boston Globe) and her “wonderfully pure cello tone and incisive technique.” (The Strad) A founding member of the Buswell- Ou Duo and a former member of the Carpe Diem String Quartet, Ms. Ou’s solo and chamber music concerts have taken her to prestigious concert venues across the globe.
The program also includes Franz Schubert's Symphony no. 4 in C minor, the Tragic. After the concert, mingle with members of the orchestra, Carol Ou and other guests at our reception.
