CALIFORNIA INCLINE CLOSED

The City of Santa Monica, in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), began reconstruction today on the California Incline Bridge. The project entails demolition of the existing bridge and construction of a new bridge at the same location to meet current seismic standards. The new structure will include a wider sidewalk and bicycle lanes. The north and south ends of the incline will remain a three-lane roadway that terminates at a signalized intersection. The new bridge will consist of a pile supported reinforced concrete slab structure with a width of 52-feet, an increase of 5-feet 8-inches over the existing structure. Replacement of the bridge with a new structure, built to current seismic standards, will correct deficiencies in the bridge and make it safe for vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian use. The year long construction project is estimated to be completed by Memorial Day weekend of 2016. (Santa Monica, Monday, April 20, 2015)

E.T. Embassy Day

Raëlians gather at Santa Monica Beach during E.T. Embassy Day on Saturday, April 4, 2015. Raëlism, also known as Raëlianism, is a UFO religion that was founded in 1974 by Claude Vorilhon, a former French auto racing journalist who changed his name to Raël. E.T. Embassy Day was created to promote the project of welcoming an extraterrestrial civilization to Earth. The Raëlian Movement teaches that life on Earth was scientifically created by a species of extraterrestrials, which they call the Elohim. According to the Raëlian Movement, the Elohim are peaceful, highly advanced extraterrestrial humans who have visited Earth and interacting with humanity for thousands of years. In 1973, they physically contacted Rael and asked him to build an Embassy so they could officially return to Earth and land before the world. Their mission is to welcome them on a peaceful planet with the respect and love that they deserve. They claim that UFO sightings and crop circles are real and that It is a way for them to tell us that they are ready to meet with us officially.
