Qing Zhui Wang

Qing Zhui Wang plays the erhu at Palisades Park, Saturday, September 19, 2020. The erhu, is a two-stringed bowed musical instrument, more specifically a spike fiddle, which may also be called a Southern Fiddle, and sometimes known in the Western world as the Chinese violin or a Chinese two-stringed fiddle. It is used as a solo instrument as well as in small ensembles and large orchestras.

9-11 Remembrance Ceremony 

#NEVERFORGET: The Santa Monica Fire Department commemorate 9/11with a solemn remembrance ceremony at Fire Station #1, Friday, September 11, 2020. Today marks nineteen years since the September 11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., and Shanksville, PA. 2,977 perished that day. Of those killed, 343 were FDNY Firefighters, 60 Police Officers and 8 private EMT/Paramedics totaling 411 emergency personnel. Also included in the civilian deaths were 5 people with connections to Santa Monica. In the past nineteen years, that number has grown significantly from Ground Zero exposures and related diseases contracted from the months of working “The Pile”. ‪#‎WeWillNeverForget‬

People Concern

The People Concern strives to end homelessness and domestic violence by providing care and support for those experiencing it, through housing and integrated services tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Their staff, volunteers, and those they serve all work together to address the effects of homelessness, poverty, mental and physical illness, abuse and addiction.

In addition to outreach, People Concern's Access Center in Santa Monica provides a safe and welcoming environment for our vulnerable neighbors. The Access Center offers meals, wellness activities, case management, and access to showers, laundry and lockers so that participants can meet their hygiene needs. Through their partnership with Venice Family Clinic, they also provide primary medical care on-site.
