During the World Water Day, a blessing for water was performed by Francis Awe & the Nigerian Talking Drum Ensemble – a vibrant, local, traditional performance group whose purpose is to educate different people about the cultural, spiritual and traditional aspects of African life and to raise awareness for the World Water Crisis. “Walks for Water” symbolize the difficult ‘on average’ three-mile daily journey that women and children in developing countries must undertake as part of their struggle to get drinking water for their families. Walkers began at the Santa Monica Pier and followed a three-mile trail that runs along the beach and ended up at the Venice Pier on Wednesday March  22, 2006. The event was sponcered by Starbucks.
