(TOP) Francesco Raneri, 48, prunes his dwarf Brazilian Banana tree in his  'Permaculture garden' (a closed loop-self sufficient system) on main street during the annual Santa Monica Community Garden Open House on Sunday, June 22, 2008. He harvest over one thousand bananas a year from his dwarf Banana tree. Raneri has occupied his plot  in the Santa Monica Community Garden since 1993. He grows peaches, grapes, passion fruit and bananas. (ABOVE) Raneri reads in his private garden on Sunday.
