The City of Santa Monica's Office of Sustainability & the Environment, Big Blue Bus and Sustainable Works announce the Grand Prize and Runner-up winners during the 2nd Annual Earth Day Student Poster Contest Awards Ceremony at Santa Monica beach on Thursday, May 13, 2010. The poster contest is titled, "Go Green. Ride Blue. What Does Sustainable Transit Mean to YOU?." There are 4 age group categories on 4 Big Blue Buses.
 
The purpose of the 2nd Annual Earth Day Poster Contest is to raise awareness around Santa Monica's Sustainable City Plan, which was created to enhance our resources, prevent harm to the natural environment and human health, and benefit the social and economic well- being of the community for the sake of current and future  generations. The contest theme specifically highlighted the Transportation goal area of the Plan.

This year's contest was a big success with 442 K-12th poster entries from 9 Santa Monica schools. The Grand Prize poster winners will be displayed on the Big Blue Bus exterior curbside ad space and the two runner-ups in each age group category will be displayed on the Big Blue Bus interior ad space for one month.
 
The contest poster winners and runners up are: Nell Kerndt, Owen Rappoport, Lotus Kaufman, Gigi Grossman, Mary Polhemus, Katie Osaki, Shayan Chetty, Lezlie Rueda, Campbell Affleck, Chelsea Palmer, Samantha Sutter, and Brandon Kudo.
