(1) U.S. Army Captain Joshua A. Mantz, an American soldier who was shot in Iraq, died from his wounds, and then was miraculously brought back to life shared his incredible story, a tale of courage, selflessness, and honor during the 72nd Annual Memorial Day Observance at Woodlawn Cemetery on Monday, May 31, 2010.

Mantz’s remarkable story involves him giving his life for his country and yet miraculously getting it right back. His squad was near hostile territory when a sniper opened up on them, killing one of Mantz’s squad mates. While attempting to drag the soldier’s body to safety, Mantz too was shot by the sniper, and after getting out of the line of fire he began to fade in and out of consciousness. He then died, and it was only thanks to the diligent labor of medical staff that he was revived. He is a true American hero, and eager to share his amazing and inspiring story with us.
