These enhancements are features of an innovative traffic control plan designed by local engineering firm Crain and Associates specifically to prevent a repeat of the horrific 2003 accident which an elderly driver killed 10 people and seriously injured several others because he allegedly mistook his gas pedal for the brake. The nets are often used on the East Coast for highway construction/road safety projects.
