Retired sheep farmer Irishman Kevin Curran drives his 1963 Fordson Dexta tractor "Betsy" on the Santa Monica Pier as he embarks on a cross country road trip from Santa Monica to Chicago on Route 66 on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society. Curran is traveling with 4 fellow Irishman, Maurice Fitzgerald, Frank Meara, Ogie Moran and Mark Walsh, who will be following in a support vehicle and will take turns driving Betsy. Curran had Betsy shipped by boat from his farm in Waterville, Ireland. Betsy’s top speed is 30 miles per hour. The cross country trip on the Mother Road should take them 15 days to complete. They will ship Betsy back to Ireland after they complete their fundraising trip.
