Santa Monica Pier Maintenance Technicians uninstall the environmental art installation entitled "Twilight and Yearning," (1998 by artist Manfred Müller) beneath the Santa Monica Pier on Thursday, October 14, 2021. The Santa Monica Arts Commission and Cultural Affairs Office deaccession of the artwork due to safety concerns and the closure of this once public space. Müller filed several appeals which were denied. The artwork was meant to draw attention to the environment and climate change. Artist Manfred Müller was on-site for the deinstallation.
