Ann Page: Recent Sculptures and Drawings

Highlights from the "Ann Page: Recent Sculptures and Drawings," artist reception at the Santa Monica College Barrett Art Gallery on Friday, September 11, 2015. The exhibition of work blurs boundaries between art and technology, merging creative thought with geometric modeling, 2D visualization, and 3D printing. Ann Page is Associate Professor of Fine Arts Practice at Roski School of Art & Design, University of California, LA. She has been active at USC in developing art & Technology classes with the information Sciences Institute, and collaborating with the Marshal School of Business-Marketing Division. Professor Page also has introduced 3D-Rapid prototyping as a contemporary tool to the Fine Arts Department through an IT Grant. Her exhibit is based on her involvement with combining her Fine Art Practice with 3-D printers and Painting and Drawing and sculpture. Her lecture will draw from comparisons of forms found in nature using natural geological conglomerate formations combined with 3-D digital processes. The exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday, Sept. 1, to Saturday, Oct. 10. For more information, please call (310) 434-3434.

911 Remembrance Ceremony

Santa Monica Fire Department Firefighter Brandt Loucks lowers the flag to half mast during the 911 Remembrance Ceremony at SMFD headquarters on Friday, September 11, 2015. The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Arlington, Va. and in Shanksville, Pa. resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people. Those killed included 343 Firefighters, 60 Police Officers and 8 private EMT/Paramedics totaling 411 emergency personnel. Also included in the civilian deaths were 5 people with connections to Santa Monica. In recognition of those who perished on that tragic day, the Santa Monica Fire Department annually conducts a brief and solemn remembrance ceremony consistent with the International Association of Fire Chiefs recommended protocols. All four community Fire Stations participated.  ‪#‎WeWillNeverForget‬

The instruments used in this ensemble consist of 7 Zimbabwean marimbas of various sizes along with vocals, drums, percussion, saxophone and trumpet.
