COVER-UP

Joey Alvarez, from Santa Monica Pier Maintenance, applies an anti-graffiti coating on an Ocean-Themed mural on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. An anti-graffiti coating is a coating that prevents graffiti paint from bonding to surfaces.  If the surface is vandalized, the protective coating can be removed using a high-pressure washer, taking the graffiti with it.

LUCKY DOG

(top) Stella, a 5 year old Boxer mix who was rescued by firefighers, kisses Santa Monica Fire Department Chief Scott Ferguson during a Recognition Ceremony honoring Stella and her rescuers on Wednesday, October 2, 2013. On September 14, at 07:20 a.m., the Santa Monica Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 2600 block of Hill Street. Firefighters found a well involved structure with an unconscious dog inside. Medics used a dog oxygen mask to revive Stella a female Boxer. After a visit to the veterinarian, Stella has made a full recovery.
