He has gone to Crossroads since the first-grade and began playing on the Crossroads basketball team in middle school (6th grade through 8th grade) and dreams of playing for USC.

ART HEALS

The art show featured more than sixty pieces of original artwork created by individuals living with mental illness.  Art Heals is a celebration of the human spirit and a chance to highlight the creativity of those who are using art as a form of expression and positive force in their life.  Art Heals allows Step Up to raise the much-needed funds for their free, life-changing services, and also presents a wonderful opportunity for their members to reinvent themselves as artists while simultaneously erasing the stigma surrounding mental illness. For 24 years, Step Up on Second has been providing assistance to individuals, housed or homeless, diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression as well as individuals who are dually diagnosed with both a mental illness and substance dependency.

Christmas in September

1) Evelyn Guerboian, representing the Santa Monica Breakfast Club, models the latest Macy's fall fashions during the Santa Monica Salvation Army Womens Auxiliary's 30th Annual Christmas in September fashion show-luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel. 2) Tara Pomposini, Director of the Santa Monica Family YMCA, walks down the catwalk modeling party attire. 3) Patty Loggins-Tazi, Director of the Police Activities League models a two piece outfit. 4) Tara Pomposini and SMPD Sgt. Rudy Camarena model evening wear during the fasion show. 5) Michael Szydlik, 4, takes his first strut down the catwalk. The event honored long time member of the Women’s Auxiliary and prominent community member, Louise Gabriel for its many years of dedication to the Christmas in September Benefit. The event benefits programs for children of needy families which include the distribution of new toys during the holidays. Eddie Guerboian served as Commentator of the fashion show which featured new fall fashions for men, women and children from Macy’s modeled by representatives from the Westside community organizations. The fashions have been coordinated by Kittie Leslie.

2008 Muscle Beach Labor Day Bodybuilding Championship

Butts won first place in the woman's novice division. This was her first time to compete. 6) James Butts, (center) former Santa Monica Police Chief and the current Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA)  Deputy Executive Director of Airport Law Enforcement & Protection Services, awards first place in the woman's novice division to his daughter Ashley (left).
