A Santa Monica Police and Fire motorcade rolls by St. John's Hospital to honor the nurses during National Nurses Week, Wednesday, May 12, 2021. National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birthday. 

Santa Monica Police Officers (@SantaMonicaPD) and Santa Monica Firefighters (@SantaMonicaFire) honored the fallen officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our community during the annual Santa Monica Police/Fire Public Safety Memorial at Santa Monica Public Safety Facility, Wednesday, May 12, 2021. The memorial recognized public safety officers who gave their lives in the line of duty to protect the citizens of Santa Monica. 

Award winning Journalist Michael Sean Comerford finishes his 10 week, 2,500 mile cross-country bike ride on Route 66, Monday, May 10, 2021. Comerford rode his bicycle from Chicago to Santa Monica videotaping people in small and large towns talking about their lives in a Pandemic for a documentary, "The Story Cycle: Americans in a Pandemic.“

Comerford began the ride after the polar vortex froze much of the Midwest and Southern states in February. In the snow and winter, he crossed Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, Barstow, Victorville, Cajon Junction, and ended at the Santa Monica Pier.
