The cast of “The Front Page,” the classic hit Broadway comedy that has delighted audiences for decades, run through dress rehearsal at Santa Monica College ’s Studio Stage on Thursday, April 18, 2012.
Written by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, the original production opened on Broadway in August 1928. It has gone on to be performed on the stage throughout the country and was adapted to film several times.
The play follows a cocky newspaper reporter who has to hide an escaped Death Row convict, who maintains his innocence in a crime, so that the reporter can interview him before rival reporters or trigger-happy policemen discover him.
The authors’ expert plotting and rapid-fire, streetwise dialogue not only made the play an instant hit but have had a strong impact on many American comic writers.
Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m., and a 2 p.m. show added for the second Saturday. Tickets are $10. A $1-per-ticket service charge is added. There is no late seating.
