People Park

Santa Monica residents Patty Factor (left) and Ilene Krischer  relax on a giant, 6-sided artistic rope hammock at Bergamot Station Art Center’s "People Park." on Tuesday, Aug 28, 2012. The hammock was created during Santa Monica Museum of Art’s  “Knotwork Workshop-Let’s Make a Hammock” on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Participants learned firsthand the art and engineering of knots from SMMoA’s director of education Asuka Hisa, Knowhow Shop’s Kagan Taylor and Justin Rice, and structural engineer Josef Taylor. The Knotwork Workshop instructed participants in a series of knotting and layering techniques to weave an original hammock designed specifically for Bergamot Station’s People Park.
