L.A.P.D. Officers Place Homeless Woman on 5150 Hold

Los Angeles Police Officers assist City of Los Angeles sanitation workers to clear the Venice Beach Homeless Encampment, Saturday, July 17, 2021. L.A.P.D. Officers removed a homeless woman by force from the Venice Beach Boardwalk. The woman did not comply with posted notices to remove belongings. She was placed on a 5150 hold and transported to the hospital. Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Technicians, St. Joseph's Center Homeless Outreach Team and Los Angeles Firefighters were on hand to assist. A 5150 is the number of the section of the Welfare and Institutions Code, which allows a person with a mental challenge to be involuntarily detained for a 72-hour psychiatric hospitalization. A person on a 5150 can be held in the psychiatric hospital against their will for up to 72 hours. The homeless encampment clearing is being completed in stages and broken down into 5 zones. The last zone is scheduled to be removed by July 30. #homeless #unhoused #lasd @lacosheriff #venicebeach #lafd
