Cardboard City

Children build cardboard sculptures at Cardboard City in Santa Monica Place on Friday, August 5, 2022. Cardboard City, by reDiscover Center, is a 5,000 square foot pop-up community art center with an exhibit of 25 LA-area artists, hands-on family activities, daily classes, and the Cardboard City Shop. Experience the hands-on fun of transforming simple cardboard into cool creations. Facilitators and Artists will be available to assist your making experience in the free Activity Zone! reDiscover has searched the world for the best cardboard tools that are kid-friendly and versatile. Come to Cardboard City with an idea of something you want to make or follow one of our prompts to create a project like a hat, a figurine, or architectural model, to take home or contribute to one of our collective sculptures. Classes at Cardboard City are offered every hour on the hour, giving participants ages 8+ a chance to go in depth with cardboard artmaking, learn new skills in cutting, forming, and building with cardboard. Led by reDiscover's talented Program Facilitators, these classes incorporate tinkering, play, creativity, and lots and lots of cardboard. Each day's schedule includes classes on costuming, sculpture, and modelmaking, as well as special classes developed by Cardboard City's Artists-in-Residence. Check out the day's schedule at the Cardboard City Info Desk upon arrival. This free public program celebrates creativity and sustainability through cardboard art. Cardboard City is open daily except for Tuesdays from 12:00 to 6:00 PM, and runs through August 14, 2022, at Santa Monica Place. Admission is free #cardboardcity #cardboardart #tinkering #rediscovercenter #kidsmakerspace @rediscoverctr reDiscover's mission is to develop children's creativity through hands-on making with sustainable materials It's Vision is for all people to have an outlet for acquiring and donating reusable materials, and a resource to develop skills for employing them in a variety of ways. As reDiscover meets this need, we move closer to a culture where all waste materials can be recognized for their educational and creative value. reDiscover achieves its mission and vision through strategic initiatives: community engagement utilizing its reuse warehouse, programs focused on education and creative expression, and shaping the next generation by working with children at its center, at schools, and in the community.
