Frieze Los Angeles 2023 Brings World-Leading Galleries to Santa Monica Airport
The highly-anticipated Frieze Los Angeles
has made a grand debut at the Santa Monica Airport on Friday, February 17, 2023. For the first time, the fair has expanded to feature more than 120 galleries from 22 countries around the world, showcasing new specialists in 20th-century art alongside restaurants and Frieze Projects spread across multiple sites.
Led by Christine Messineo, Frieze's Director of Americas, the fair brings together major world-leading galleries alongside some of the most exciting emerging spaces in the United States. The new location of the fair at the Santa Monica Airport allows for an expanded footprint, offering visitors a wider selection of galleries and collaborations with non-profit organizations, as well as a series of new ambitious activations and pop-ups from some of Los Angeles' most beloved restaurants.
Apart from contemporary art exhibits, Frieze Los Angeles 2023 features a range of artistic programming inspired by the fair's new location, with Frieze Projects showcasing two site-specific strands of programming. One is a collaboration with Art Production Fund, which is onsite at the fair, while the other is an expanded series of projects curated by Jay Ezra Nayssan and Del Vaz Projects installed in culturally significant sites across the west side of Los Angeles. Additionally, five nonprofit organizations from across Los Angeles are given a platform at the fair to showcase each organization's mission linking art and social impact.
Frieze Los Angeles is supported by global lead partner Deutsche Bank, continuing a shared commitment to artistic excellence. The fair also sees the return of the Frieze Impact Award and the Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award, a development program supporting emerging Los Angeles-based filmmakers.
"We are excited to present a diverse and innovative lineup of artistic programming at Frieze Los Angeles 2023," said Christine Messineo, Director of Americas, Frieze. "Now Playing" and "Against the Edge'' strands of programming reflect the fair's connection to the city, showcasing Los Angeles' historical significance, creative founders and foundation, unique architecture, and artistic community.
Frieze Los Angeles is the latest addition to the Frieze platform for modern and contemporary art, which includes three magazines and five international art fairs. Frieze has established itself as the world's leading platform for modern and contemporary art, catering to scholars, connoisseurs, collectors, and the general public alike. The fair will continue to run until February 19, offering visitors a fantastic opportunity to experience the most exciting contemporary art exhibits and cultural legacies of Los Angeles.
