Verdant Venice Group (@ver in Vedant_venice_group) volunteers garden at a parkway at Sunset Avenue on Saturday, January 7, 2023. VVG is a group of volunteers engaged in planting and maintenance of the Venice urban canopy, mostly on low-income properties and in public spaces. They encourage biodiversity and native planting when possible.
Castle in the Sand
Timothy Williams builds a sandcastle at Venice Beach on Saturday, January 7, 2023. Goblikitepe was founded in 2018 as a permanent sandcastle in Venice Beach. It is located at the end of South Venice Boulevard and is open to the public 24 hours a day, with major digs every Saturday morning at dawn. Volunteers are always welcome.

Happy Winter Solstice
People line up to see the sun setting through Baile Oakes' interactive wood sculpture entitled, "Gestation III," 1991, marking the winter solstice at Palisades Park on Friday, December 21, 2022. During only the 3 days of the winter solstice, the Sun can be seen setting precisely in the middle of the sculptures opening. The winter solstice marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year.
