Rising Up for Abortion rights in Santa Monica
Demonstrators in support of Abortion Rights and to protest the reversal of Roe V. Wade rally in front of the Planned Parenthood office at the Third Street Promenade on Saturday, July 16, 2022. The protest was organized by Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights @rise4abortionrightsla. Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights is a U.S.-based abortion rights coalition founded in 2022 aimed at preventing the U.S. Supreme Court from overturning Roe V. Wade and "decimating" abortion rights in the United States.
Police Partner with Youth
Members of Pico Lab sell silk screen t-shirts at the Santa Monica Pier on Friday, July 15, 2022. The shirts were custom designed and printed at Virginia Avenue Park by the youth members. The Santa Monica Police Department’s LEAD (Leadership, Engagement, Achievement, Discovery) Program prides itself on being adaptable and responsive to youth’s needs and interests while building leadership and practical skills. The Pico Lab was created within the LEAD, in partnership with The Police Officers Association, for young people to learn entrepreneurship and teaches young people how to start their own business and plug into existing economic avenues in our community. Young people need encouragement, support, services, and tangible resources, the Pico Lab creates that opportunity.
Police K9 Searches for Explosives at Pier
Santa Monica Police Officer Hassan, and her four-legged partner K9 Jack, a 4-year-old Labrador, search the Santa Monica Pier for explosives for Major League Baseball’s Capital One All-Star Oceanfront event on Friday, July 15, 2022. K9 Jack can detect body-worn explosives and concealed firearms in a mass pedestrian area from around 50 yards away.
Zombie Escapes in Santa Monica
A promotion for Netflix's series entitled, "Resident Evil," was staged at the Third Street Promenade on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. The Netflix original CG anime series is based on the video game by Capcom and is about a viral outbreak that caused a global apocalypse. Resident Evil is set to premiere on July 14, 2022.
Officers Bicycle Training Certification
More than two dozen officers participate in a Santa Monica Police Department bicycle certification training course at Virginia Avenue Park on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. The four day certification course features training techniques and safety procedures that provides skills for safe and effective use of the bicycle. Some of the skills taught in the course includes mounting and dismounting, emergency stops, slow maneuvering, curb hopping, bike positioning and traffic safety. Santa Monica Police Officers, Traffic Services Officers, Community Services Officers, Harbor Patrol Officers and Code Enforcement Officers participated in the bicycle certification class.
Pro-choice Activists March in Santa Monica
Hundreds of pro-choice activists march along Ocean Front Walk to protest the justices' reversal of Roe v. Wade in Santa Monica on Sunday, July 10, 2022. Demonstrators chanted, "Woman's rights are human rights,"..."My body, my choice,..." among other chants. The march went from Santa Monica to Venice and back along Ocean Front Walk.
Pro-life Babies Lives Matter March
A pro-life rally was held at Palisades Park on Saturday, July 9, 2022. People held signs that said, "Baby Lives Matter," during the rally. Pro-life activists also gathered and clashed with the pro-choice demonstrators. Pro-life demonstrators marched from Palisades Park to the Planned Parenthood office at the Third Street Promenade. Sea Beast Sighted at Venice Beach
A sea beast resembling a giant lobster claw was sighted at Venice Beach on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. The sea beast is a promotion for a Netflix move premiering this Friday entitled, "The Sea Beast." The Movie is about the life of a legendary sea monster hunter who is turned upside down when a young girl stows away on his ship. The Sea Beast is a 2022 American computer-animated adventure film by Chris Williams in his solo directorial debut. The film stars the voices of Karl Urban, Zaris-Angel Hator, Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dan Stevens, and Kathy Burke. (Source: Wikipedia)
