LA MODE 2009

Displaying creative flair and cutting-edge design, Santa Monica College students walk down the catwalk during the 25th annual "LA Mode 2009" on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at SMC. The fashion show spotlighted students cutting-edge designs in four categories - Cocktail Wear, Day Dress, Evening Wear and Casual Wear. Nearly 200 garments were shown by the students. All attire was designed and created by SMC fashion students. Judges in the industry had said they were impressed with the overall collection, commenting that many of the designs were ready to be displayed at department stores such as Neiman Marcus and some were even good enough for haute couture collections, said Fereshteh Mobasheri, director of the college's fashion and merchandising program. The show was dedicated to the memory of Martin Wicksman, owner of a very successful pattern-making business who had taught part-time in the program and was a big supporter and mentor. This years fashion show was dedicated to the memory of Martin Wicksman, owner of a very successful pattern-making business, who has been such a strong supporter over the years of SMC's program - as an advisor, mentor and instructor. SMC's fashion design and merchandising program is a rapidly growing program that has sent students to work in throughout the U.S. and the world. LA Mode 2009 was presented by Santa Monica College’s Department of Fashion.

The Refugees
