Hawaiian Paradise

Special Olympics Southern California  celebrated its 14th Annual Pier Del Sol event at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier on Oct. 10, 2010. This year's "Hawaiian Paradise" theme included spectacular cuisine from over 35 of LA's top restaurants, hula lessons, Hawaiian dancers, live tropical music, rides and games. Along with other celebrities and sports figures, California's First Lady, Maria Shriver, attended as the honorary chair.  Frank Buckley was the emcee at the event. Participants enjoyed a VIP brunch from L.A.'s top restaurants, including Melisse, Providence, Water Grill, Angelini Osteria and Spago.
 
Special Olympics Southern California celebrates 41 years of changing lives through the power of sport. Special Olympics offer opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to participate in year-round sports training and competition. Founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Special Olympics provides opportunities to develop fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy as they participate in the sharing of gifts and friendship with other athletes, their families and the community. All programs are provided at no cost to the athletes and their families.

First Lady of California Maria Shriver with her brother Santa Monica Mayor Bobby Shriver celebrates National Center on Addiction Substance Abuse's (CASA) Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children™ at the Santa Monica YMCA on Tuesday, September, 28, 2010. Family Day encouraging families to spend time doing activities that strengthen the family unit - by eating, playing, serving and preparing together. Family day is also about celebrating the message that we are all a part of the California family! Research  has consistently found that the more often kids eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink, or use drugs.

Pier del Sol's 40th Birthday Bash

This celebration commemorates 40 years for SOSC, which was founded by Olympic Decathlon Gold Medalist, Rafer Johnson.  This signature event is Southern California's largest fundraiser that benefits Special Olympics athletes. Since its inaugural year, Pier del Sol has raised more than $4 million to benefit Special Olympics Southern California athletes.
