SAVE THE PIER THE PLAY

Save the Pier The Play, A FREE play will take place on October 16, 17 and 18th at 7:00pm at the end of the Santa Monica Pier on the subject of the 1970's fight to save the pier.In the early 1970’s, the Santa Monica City Council voted to build a 35-acre island in Santa Monica Bay, featuring a high-rise hotel, a convention center, restaurants and other amenities. Highlights from Special Olympics 19th annual Pier del Sol at the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday, October 11, 2015. PIER DEL SOL is a fun-filled fundraiser for the entire family that benefits more than 17,000 athletes of the Special Olympics Southern California. The guests enjoyed unlimited rides and games at Pacific Park, a VIP outdoor brunch with over 36 of Greater L.A.'s top restaurants and much more! Maria Shriver and Bobby Shriver were the honorary chairs.Founded in 1969 by Olympic decathlon gold medalist Rafer Johnson, Special Olympics Southern California serves children and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in year round sports training and competition. Participation develops improved physical fitness and motor skills and greater selfconfidence in our athletes.Special Olympics has become the world’s largest movement dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion, and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics programs are offered at no cost to the athletes and their families.

OPERA AT THE BEACH

The LA Opera technical crew test audio and video equipment at the Santa Monica Pier in preparation for tomorrow nights live broadcast.

LA Opera presents Opera at the Beach, a live broadcast sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl. The double-bill of GIANNI SCHICCHI & PAGLIACCI starring Plácido Domingo, will be broadcast live in high-definition from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to the big screen at the Santa Monica Pier. The live broadcast will be captured by nine cameras at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and shown simultaneously on a large LED screen on the Santa Monica Pier deck.

General Admission Tickets are currently SOLD OUT. A limited number of tickets will be available at the Santa Monica Pier starting at 5pm on Saturday, October 3. Subject to availability - first come, first served.
