SMPD ZERO BIKES

Santa Monica Police Department Motor Officers showcased their four new 'Zero Bikes' electric motorcycles at Santa Monica Beach on Tuesday, January 28, 2020,

These electric motorcycles promote green technology, eliminates gas and oil spills, and reduce noise and exhaust disturbance.

With no gears, clutch or noise, officers can focus on patrolling. They can perform highly technical maneuvers during intense situations where performance and agility are essential. While in crowds or indoors the absence of exhaust eliminates a ventilation concerns and opens up new, or improves current, patrolling scenarios, such as stealth patrols; drug enforcement, burglary, and other situations where silence is an advantage.

The Zero Motorcycles have a maintenance free powertrain, a top speed of 102 MPH, and a 176 miles range on a charge.

Getting the Zero Bikes was a collaborative effort between the City of Santa Monica’s Public Works Department and the Police Department. These new electric motorcycles are part of the City’s commitment to reducing emissions while serving as fast, effective, and quiet crime-fighting tool. This ultimately results in faster response times to calls for service.
