Pouring Concrete
Construction crew pour concrete on the Santa Monica Beach Bike Path on Tuesday, January 7, 2020.
The Santa Monica Beach Bike Path has been closed for construction and been rerouted on to Ocean Front Walk. The City of Santa Monica is upgrading the North Beach Trail to enhance safety and circulation at the popular beach destination as part of the North Beach Trail Improvement Project. Enhancements include widening the existing bike path, adding a separate walking path, and renovating Ocean Front Walk north of the Santa Monica Pier. The project is anticipated to be completed in November 2020.
To minimize disruption to the public, construction is being conducted in phases beginning at the northern limits of Santa Monica. During each phase, construction is being performed in incremental sections. The Pier and surrounding businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the duration of construction. Signage will be posted to provide direction for pedestrian detours and any closures. There will be a temporary path for cyclists and pedestrians in the construction zone. Cyclists must dismount and walk their bikes on the temporary path. Parking Lot 4 North will be used as the construction staging area and will be closed for the duration of the construction. View the construction map at santamonica.gov/northbeachtrail.
