FOOD FARE

Chef Celestino Drago, chef and owner of Drago Restaurant Group (Drago Centro, IL Pastaio, Drago Catering & Special Events, Drago Bakery), slices prosciutto during  Planned Parenthood LA's 35th Annual Food Fare at the Barker Hanger on Thursday, March 6, 2014. This year, Planned Parenthood Los Angeles honored Chef Drago as their Chef of the Year for his contributions to the culinary culture of Los Angeles and years of dedication to the mission of Planned Parenthood.

“It is truly an honor to join such an illustrious list of honorees as Food Fare’s Chef of the Year! As a long time advocate for Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, I am so pleased to be able to continue to support such a great cause and a wonderful event,” says Chef Celestino Drago.

The premiere gastronomic event showcases over 150 of Southern California’s finest chefs, restaurants, wineries, breweries, spirit purveyors, and vendors.

Food Fare began in 1979 with a cooking demonstration by Julia Child. Over the last three and a half decades, it has grown into one of the oldest and most celebrated food events in Los Angeles.  Food Fare is a unique opportunity for Southern California’s food-lovers, Planned Parenthood supporters and the general public to sample the best food and drinks L.A. has to offer.

Some of the participating restaurants this year include: Ammo, Angelini Osteria, AOC, Blue Plate Restaurant Group, Chi Spacca, Craft, Drago Centro, JAR, Joe’s Restaurant, Library Ale House, Lucques, Maison Giraud, Rivera, Salt’s Cure, Superba Food & Bread, Tavern, The Tripel and many more. This year’s event will also feature some of the city’s most popular food trucks, including The Border Grill Truck and The Grilled Cheese Truck.

In addition to the gourmet fare, guests  enjoyed delicious libations from Caffe Luxxe, Kreation Juicery, Elixr G, and Infuse Vodka as well as sample the latest craft beers in The Beer Chicks’ Beer Garden. Wineries such as Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery, Herb Lamb Vineyards, and Beckman Vineyards were pouring and selling their latest bottles.

Food Fare is hosted by the Planned Parenthood Los Angeles Guild, a group of nearly 200 women dedicated to providing financial and volunteer support for Planned Parenthood’s 19 health centers, which provide care to nearly 150,000 women, men, and teens each year. Over 93% of the care Planned Parenthood provides is preventative, including life-saving cancer screenings, birth control, annual exams, and STD testing and treatment.
