Race to the Scene

Contestants swing through the air while competing in Reelz Channel’s new reality TV show entitled, “Race to the Scene” at the Santa Monica Pier parking lot on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. Race to the Scene is hosted by action-movie star Dolph Lundgren.In Race to the Scene, pairs of contestants race to and from actual movie locations as they compete in challenges and stunts inspired by memorable movie moments. Race to the Scene is set to debut in spring 2013. The Hochberg Ebersol Company will produce Race to the Scene. The series is created and executive produced by Justin Hochberg, Charlie Ebersol and REELZ. “Race to the Scene will transport movie lovers off their couch and into their favorite action scenes,” said Charlie Ebersol, co-founder, The Hochberg Ebersol Company. “Mark my words, Dolph Lundgren will change non-scripted television forever… or at least until he does it again. He is the perfect iconic action star to lead this fast-paced, adrenalin-filled adventure that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats week after week.”

GO BETSY!

Retired sheep farmer Irishman Kevin Curran drives his 1963 Fordson Dexta tractor "Betsy" on the Santa Monica Pier as he embarks on a cross country road trip from Santa Monica to Chicago on Route 66 on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society. Curran is traveling with 4 fellow Irishman, Maurice Fitzgerald, Frank Meara, Ogie Moran and Mark Walsh, who will be following in a support vehicle and will take turns driving Betsy. Curran had Betsy shipped by boat from his farm in Waterville, Ireland. Betsy’s top speed is 30 miles per hour. The cross country trip on the Mother Road should take them 15 days to complete. They will ship Betsy back to Ireland after they complete their fundraising trip.

Irish 66'ers

The Irish 66'ers, a group of 62 Irish motorcyclist, ride their motorcycles down the Santa Monica Pier on Monday, October 1, 2012, after completing an eleven day cross country trip on the Mother Road   The Irish motorcyclists traveled 2,448 miles along the historic Route 66 to raise money for the Temple Street Children's University Hospital. Since the first ever Route 66 Challenge in aid of Temple Street took place in 2002, the challenge has raised more than 1.5 million euro in much needed funds for the Hospital.
