ON GAURD

Mentees from the Salty Shakespeare Company, Christian Soto, 16, and Sebastian Schier, 12,  perform a fight scene from “Hamlet” at the Annenberg Community Beach House during a  theatre program on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.

Salty Shakespeare is a group of actors dedicated to making Shakespeare a part of everyday life----taking the greatest poet who ever lived out of the darkness and confines of the theatre into the streets.

The way it was done in the first place.

Salty Shakespeare is not interested in occupying a space or selling expensive tickets. Their rehearsal hall is a park or a street corner. Their actors will erupt anywhere in L.A. with a scene from HAMLET or HENRY V or CORIOLANUS. National Public Radio covered them doing 1 minute and 50 seconds of HAMLET in a crowded elevator in downtown L.A. for Weekend Edition. An L.A.

You never know where they’ll turn up.

HOP ON THE BUS

A tour bus drives through a ribbon during a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Tour Bus Loading and Unloading Zone at Santa Monica Place on Thursday, June 28, 2012. It has been more than 5 years since there was a stop at the mall. Holding the ribbon are representatives from Santa Monica Place, Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau, Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, City of Santa Monica, Downtown Santa Monica and DTSM Inc.

With this new zone, tour companies can drop visitors in the heart of Downtown Santa Monica, at the intersection of the World-Famous Third Street Promenade and the latest outdoor shopping haven Santa Monica Place.

The City of Santa Monica extends courtesy parking and use of designated zones within the City to tour bus operators who are certified by SMCVB for their contribution to the visitor industry in Santa Monica. Operators can apply online at SantaMonica.com.
