BEACH BUOYS

Los Angeles County lifeguards install a 450 foot buoy north of the Santa Monica Pier on Monday, June 18, 2012, in preparation for summer. The buoy is to prevent swimmers from getting too close to the pier.

KIWANIS MUSIC AWARDS

Lincoln Middle School student, Nanki Chugh, 12, first place winner in the instrumental middle school division, performs Concerto No. 1 in A minor,  on the violin during the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica's 63rd Annual Music Awards Luncheon at the Sheraton Delfina Santa Monica on Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Twenty-four Santa Monica Unified District music students ranging from sixth grade through graduating seniors shared over $9,150 in prizes for vocal and instrumental music achievement, part of the annual awards program.  First Place winners performed for parents, faculty and Kiwanians. "We always have a difficult time selecting awardees from the wonderful candidates," said Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica Music Chair, Maggie Hall. "Our future is in very competent hands, so we want to help them along."
