ONE-MAN-BAND

Arthur Nakane, 85, a one-man-band, performs at the Santa Monica Pier on Monday, September 26, 2022. Nakane can perform up to seven instruments at one time; an electric guitar, he has a drum machine for drum beat effects, plays keyboards with the tip of his guitar, plays the harmonica and the electric kazoo, shakes the tambourine and maracas, strikes symbols and sings duets by himself with on-the-spot recording.

Cross Country Chase Motorcycle Ride Finishes at Santa Monica Pier

A caravan of 100 vintage motorcycles completes the Cross Country Chase at the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday, September 25, 2022. The Cross Country Chase is a 10 day cross country challenge along Route 66 for riders with motorcycles that were manufactured between 1930-1960, The Chase was a test of Endurance, Speed, Navigation, and Knowledge. The motorcyclists departed from Springfield, Illinois, and finished the 2,330 miles endurance run at the Santa Monica Pier. Riders and Machines endured fatigue, mental exhaustion, cold, heat, elevations, and all the ferocious elements of Mother Nature. Riders navigated the course of The Cross Country Chase on their own, no support crews of any kind was allowed during the event. Riders had to think about what they needed to pack to make it the duration; tools, parts, and luggage had to be packed on your motorcycle. It was just the riders, their motorcycle, and some of the best 2-lane roads of North America. Riders had to successfully navigate the 9-day, 2400+ mile route without going off course or getting lost. The Cross Country Chase provided riders with a Navigation Map each morning that gave turn-by-turn instructions based on mileage. Riders were given a 100-question test that covered aspects of the route and American Motorcycling history which counted towards each rider’s final score. The Cross Country Chase is held every two years.

Seniors Fight Back in Self Defense

Ron Scolesdang, a professional MMA (Mixed Martial Art) fighter with 20+ years of self-defense experience, teaches Senior Citizens self-defense to learn how to better protect themselves from attacks at Virginia Avenue Park on Sunday, September 18, 2022. The class teaches seniors basic skills on situational awareness and defense moves. Seniors Fight Back (SFB) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was founded in May 2021 in Southern California by a passionate group of individuals that wanted to help the AAPI community in the midst of rising anti-Asian hate crimes—particularly against the elderly. Since then, SFB has provided the training and resources to 1700+ seniors and others of various age group.

Oktoberfest at German American Club of Santa Monica

The German American Club of Santa Monica, founded in 1951, is an apolitical, secular, social club, located in the city of Santa Monica, open to persons interested in German-American relations and its people. Its purpose is to preserve, maintain and to promote German heritage, customs, culture and language, emphasizing and supporting the contributions German-Americans have been making to the development of the United States of America.
