Coffee with a Cop

Santa Monica Police meet with members of the community during "Coffee with a Cop" at Gnarwhal Coffee Co. on Wednesday, August 30, 2022. The majority of law enforcement contacts with the public occur during emergencies or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective time to build relationships. Coffee with a Cop aims to break down barriers and allow for relaxed interaction. Coffee with a Cop events are designed to provide an opportunity for the community to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know their Police Department. The relaxed nature of this event is intended to allow Police Department to get to know the community, and for community members to get to know the officers who serve Santa Monica. The goal is to strengthen the relationship between the Santa Monica Police Department and the community. Coffee with a Cop events are now held in all 50 states and is one of the most successful community oriented policing programs across the country. The program has also expanded to outside the United States to Canada, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Latin America. The key to Coffee with a Cop’s growing success is that it opens the door for interactions outside of crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together.

Firefighter Cycle from San Francisco to Santa Monica Raising Funds for Cancer Prevention

Firefighter cycle down the Santa Monica Pier completing a 7 day ride on Saturday, August 27, 2021. On Sunday, August 21, 2022, approximately 25 riders, active and retired, began the journey from Sausalito FD, Station 1 in Southern Marin County in San Francisco and rode down the coast over the next 6 days arriving at the Santa Monica Pier, on Saturday, August 27. Each rider was tasked with obtaining donations totaling a minimum of $1500. Funds raised after expenses were donated to the San Francisco Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation (sffcpf.org), the leading organization in researching cancer in the fire service. Support also goes out to the Fire Family Foundation (firefamilyfoundation.org) based in Los Angeles, which provides various programs to assist firefighters in their time of need. These rides over the life of this organization have raised more than half a million dollars. The San Francisco Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation is committed to the prevention and early detection of cancer and providing access to cutting edge care for active and retired members of the San Francisco Fire Department and their families. Our goals are based on scientific research, education, cancer screenings and health navigation. Through this research and advocacy we aim to improve public health and end this threat of job-related cancer in the firefighting profession.

Mobil 1 and the Muffler Man will then travel to Delgadillo’s Snow Cap Drive-In in Seligman, Arizona – a Route 66 landmark – to try to set a milkshake world record. At Albuquerque’s Clowndog Hot Dog Parlor in New Mexico, the brand will pay tribute to America’s mouth-watering, deep-fried delicacies by attempting to create the world’s largest corndog. Last but not least, the journey will continue to Litchfield, Illinois, where Mobil 1 will team up with local canines to strive for the world record of most dogs attending a film screening at the Litchfield Skyview Drive-In. The historic 2,400 miles of roads are home to numerous unforgettable local businesses worth exploring.
